Cloudforest Design created user-centered applications, websites, and cross-platform digital strategies that are easy to use, engaging and fun. As co-owner and principal designer with Cloudforest, I completed design projects for well over a dozen clients, several of whom were frequent repeat customers.
Cloudforest worked with Sunrun, the nation’s leading residential solar power leasing company, to create the Solar Design Tool. The Solar Design Tool was designed to make it possible to quickly and accurately design solar power systems without requiring a site visit.
Under the hood, the Sunrun Design Tool used the minimum number of user inputs possible, to parameterize a search through hundreds of potential system components, and ultimately arrived at a residential solar power system design that minimized up front cost and maximized long-term energy returns.

The UI continued to evolve throughout the project.
Hundreds of pages of annotated screen designs detailed the look, feel, and behavior of every interaction.
This was a living document that was continuously updated throughout the project.
In addition to product design, we also worked with Sunrun to help them understand their customer and partner journeys.
This helped Sunrun teams break out of silos and gain a much clearer understanding of both how their own systems and processed work, and also how this appeared to customers at various touch points.
As Sunrun’s business continued to mature, I helped them explore new channels and new approaches to sales.
Here you can see a concept for leasing solar power through Amazon Home Services, and a concept for an iPad app that would allow an outside sales person to walk through the design process while the customer participates.
